Rugby Premier League table leaders Kobs will come up against second placed Heathens in a very decisive matchday five fixture on Saturday, 10th April 2021 at Legends Grounds.
The fixture also doubles as the Lions Cup, a competition between Kobs and Heathens played every time they meet in a 15-aside match.
Both sides are still perfect in the league and with this season’s campaign being played in only one round due to the cost of running games in Covid-19 times, the Saturday result could dictate who wins the title between Kobs and Heathens since they are top favorites to claim the title.
With five matches left to wind down the 10-team league, Kobs lead the table with 20 points, just one ahead of second placed Heathens who are also back-to-back league winners.
Kobs have posted some huge wins in the previous four fixtures and managed to get all bonus points in the process with Heathens dropping a bonus point once.
Kobs flanker Brian Asaba believes that the fixture is very crucial in their pursuit to relieve Heathens of the title and hopes that they will come good at their own backyard.
“We are ready to put our bodies on the line for this game. The team is looking good for the clash and everybody is eager for a win,” the Rugby Cranes flanker said.
Last time out (before the Easter holiday), both sides beat Makerere-based outfits with Kobs beating Rams 29-06 at the Makerere Graveyard while Heathens beat Impis 56-03 at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
Joseph Oyet who scored three conversions for Heathens last time out is upbeat as his side crosses to Legends, a place that used to be his home when he once plied his trade with Warriors two seasons ago.
“This is a very big fixture this season and I know both teams will want to win it. However, we shall come strong and play our way,” Oyet said.
Kobs last met Heathens in November 2019 under the floodlights. Then, Heathens won 06-00 courtesy of Aaron Ofoywroth’s two penalty kicks. The return leg wasn’t played due to Covid-19 disruptions as Heathens were crowned champions with five games unplayed.
This time round, both Kobs and Heathens will miss some of their very important players who are away on national duty in the Emirates Invitational 7s that came to a close on Friday, 9th April 2021.
Kobs will miss the services of Nobert Okeny, Adrian Kasito, Joseph Aredo, Ian Munyani and Pius Ogena while Heathens will be without Aaron Ofoywroth and Michael Wokorach.
The match officials are; Center referee – Saudah Adiru, AR1 – David Kirabira, AR2 – Raymond Kisekka and MC – Gary Mabonga.
