Kobs are on course to win the 2021 Rugby Premier League title following their hard earned 03-12 away win against Jinja Hippos on Saturday at Damwaters.
The matchday six triumph on the road implies that Kobs still lead the 10-team league with 28 points, three ahead of second placed Black Pirates with the 2021 league being played in only one round due to the cost of running games in Covid-19 times.
Brian Ochan’s early try gave Kobs a 00-05 half time lead though James Ijongat failed to utilize the extras.
With the home side proving to be a hard nut to crack, Kobs introduced fresh legs into play and try scorer Ochan came out for Raymond Mukwaya.
Moments later, James Odong extended Kobs lead when he capitalized on Adrian Kasito’s cross kick to touch down. Josiah Ssempeke utilized the extras.
Maxwell Ebonga’s penalty later earned Hippos their first points of the game but the full time score read 03-12 in favor of Kobs.
However, Black Pirates and title holders Heathens are still in the title race with the two sides also posting victories on the day. Pirates beat Buffaloes 10-12 at Kyadondo Rugby Club while Heathens beat Warriors 41-00 at the same venue.
Heathens are third on the table with 24 points, just four behind log leaders Kobs and four ahead of fourth placed Jinja Hippos.
Mongers are fifth on the table with 17 points while Buffaloes, Impis and Rhinos all have nine points but are sixth, seventh and eighth on the table respectively.
Rams and Warriors are currently endangered and one of them could face relegation depending on what happens in the final three games. Rams who are as winless as Warriors are ninth with two points but the former have no point.
