Mbale Eagles and Black Pearls dominated the opening circuits of the Women’s Regional 10s satellite tournaments that kicked off over the weekend, with the former winning the Eastern event held in Mbale while the latter won the Central circuit played in Entebbe.
Mbale Eagles who didn’t concede a try through out the day won all its three games beating Bumangeni, Bugema and Nyondo 44-00, 48-00 and 34-00 respectively in a round robin tournament held on Saturday.
The Entebbe event held on Sunday and also played in a round robin format was divided into two categories, that is; age grade and seniors.
In the seniors category, Black Pearls won all their games ahead of the second circuit that they will host next Sunday at Kings Park in Bweyogerere, Kampala.
Black Pearls stamped authority in the Central Region with a 26-00 win against Entebbe Avengers in the final game. They had earlier on beaten Thunderbirds and Avengers 31-05 and 26-00 respectively.
Black Pearls’ Emily Lekuru was named MVP in the seniors category.
In the age grade category, Entebbe based Blue Whales beat Black Diamonds 24-07 in their third match to complete their perfect streak and emerge winners. They had earlier on beaten Lady Swans and Ewes 31-00 and 41-00 respectively.
Isabella Ira of Blue Whales was named MVP in the age grade category.
However, the Northern event will kickoff on Saturday, 24th April in Kitgum.
Going forward, the regions will hold circuits after every seven days for three straight weeks.
After the circuits, a franchise team for women will assemble in Kampala to enable national team selectors pick players for future engagements.
The women’s teams will also have a national finals tournament at the conclusion of the regionals.
