Uganda men’s National Volleyball League defending champions Nemostars Club finished eighth in this year’s edition of the men’s Africa Club Volleyball Championship (ACVC) as they bowed out of the tournament on Monday in Tunisian capital Tunis.
Nemostars settled for eighth after losing in straight sets to Kenya’s GSU in the 7/8 placement fixture.
Nemostars who made a sixth straight appearance at the championship had serious financial constraints prior and during the tournament but hanged on until their final engagement.
Due to financial challenges, Nemostars failed to field a full contingent for the event and as a result George Aporu stood-in as Head of delegation, Team Manager, Coach and as well as Captain but the attacker is grateful to see his side successfully compete at the continental meet.
“I wish to thank everyone for the support and love you have showed and have always shown to our team. On behalf of the men’s team and on my own behalf, I want to say thank you for making this trip happen even during the tough times when all odds seemed to be against us to travel,” Aporu said in a missive seen by this reporter.
Albeit finishing eighth, Aporu believes that Nemostars still have a bright future ahead especially if resources are availed to the side ahead of such tournaments.
“I still believe we are not yet where we should be. We can do better and this will happen sooner than we can imagine but we all have to believe and work towards it,” Aporu noted.
“I want to appreciate all the players who made the trip, well played and Aluta continua. The journey to the promised land won’t be an easy one but we have to fight the tide,” Aporu added.
Aporu also thanked the club’s top management who have always fulfilled their pledge of taking the team to the continental meet every time they qualify for it.
