Serie A volleyball outfit Orange Block Busters (OBB) are the men’s champions of the 2021 Kabale University Volleyball Open after beating Squad X 3-0 in the final of the event’s fourth edition on Sunday at the institute’s grounds in Kabale.
The triumph comes as a timely remedy for the Iganga based OBB side who were condemned to the bridesmaid’s role by Ndejje Sharks during the final of the Ndejje Open held on Thursday last week.
OBB who won all their games were in pool B and beat KYVC, Elites, KVC, COBAP and MYVC till meeting Squad X, a team filled with Sport – S players in the finals.
The Kabale meet was an open tournament that any team could field any player. It was not regulated by the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF).
St. Elizabeth won the women’s title.
The Kabale University Open is the second local volleyball event to be held ever since sports activities were reinstated in September last year after a six-month hiatus caused by Covid-19 disruptions. The first event to be held was the Ndejje University Open that came to a close last week in Luwero.
Other competitions set to serve off this year are; Aporu Okol International Tournament slated for 12th and 13th June in Kumi Town, OBB International Tournament slated for 10th to 11th July at Iganga OBB Grounds CMS, KAVC International Tournament slated for 14th and 15th August at Lugogo, plus other national engagements, and the like. The league will start in September.
