Vipers SC maintained their Hope’s of winning a league and cup double this season as they secured passage to the Uganda Cup last 8 on Monday.

The Venoms who were held to a 1-1 draw by UPDF FC, progressed to the next round 4-2 on aggregate having won the first leg 3-1 in Bombo.

The visitors had taken a shock lead in the early exchanges as Vuni Bright Joseph headed home Isa Mubiru’s corner kick.

The leveller came from nearly impossible fashion as Bobosi Byaruhanga found the back of the net from a direct corner kick.

The Venoms who sit second in the league standings, one point behind leaders URA FC with 9 games to play, looked calm throughout the game at Kitende.

They had a goal wrongly disallowed after Ceaser Manzoki was judged to have been in an offside position before bundling in Milton Karisa’s pin-point accurate cross.

Manzoki, Karisa, Jamal Kalisa and Allan Kayiwa all had good chances to score but were let down by poor finishing.

For UPDF, they will live to reflect on what might have been after Charles Ssebutinde found himself one-on-one with Vipers custodian Fabien Mutombora before firing straight at him, with the Army side leading 1-0.

This was the fourth time the two sides were meeting this season with Vipers winning thrice and drawing the other game.

Vipers return to action this weekend when they visit KCCA at Lugogo in the league while UPDF’s next assignment sees them face Wakiso Giants FC.
