URA FC moved four points clear at the top of the Uganda Premier League table thanks to a 3-1 victory over Onduparaka FC at Ndejje on Friday.
The Tax Collectors took the lead on 34 minutes through captain Shafiq Kagimu after he was set-up by the returning Steven Mukwala.
Mukwala then got his name onto the score sheet five minutes later to ensure his side went into the break with a reasonable 2-0 lead.
Against the run of play, Ajobe Mahad halved the deficit just minutes into the second half for the visitors to put URA under some pressure.
However, Kagimu put any doubts over the result to bed with his second of the day, just past hour mark after he was once again teed up by eventual man-of-the-match Mukwala.
The victory is URA’s 15 for the season and it takes them to 50 points atop the standings.
For Onduparaka, they stay in 13th with 24 points, four clear of the relegation zone with eight games to play.
At Wakissha, Wakiso Giants FC thumped UPDF 5-1 to record their 4th victory of the campaign.
Midfielder Joshua Lubwama broke the deadlock for the home side inside five minutes, netting from the spot after Viane Ssekajugo was brought down in the area by Brian Kayanja.
With 15 minutes played, Wakiso doubled their lead through Ivan Bogere who pounced onto a loose ball in the area to poke home through a forest of legs.
Four minutes to the break, Frank Ssebuufu rose highest to node home the third off George Kaddu’s long throw-in.
At the stroke of halftime, Bogere raced onto a long ball before rounding Yusuf Wasswa and firing into the top corner for the fourth.
After missing several chances, the fifth finally came on 70 minutes as Ivan Ssekajugo pounced onto a rebound after Wasswa had saved from Bogere, to bundle into the back of the net.
Hassan Zzinda netted UPDF’s consolation with 17 minutes to play, striking into the bottom corner past the out-stretched Samson Kirya.
This is Wakiso’s fifth victory of the season and it sees them climb into 9th with 26 points.
For UPDF, they stay in 6th with 32 points from 22 matches.
In Tororo, MYDA FC fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Kyetuem FC at the King George IV Memorial Stadium.
Ezra Kaye put Kyetume in the lead on 12th minutes to justify a fast-out-of-the blocks start for the Visitors.
Yusuf Ssaka then scored from the spot in the 48th minute after Lojum Brandy’s foul and see the visitors double their caution.
Before halftime break, Isaac Osikol had missed from the spot after Peter Mutebi was tripped in the box and later Mutebi fluffed the second penalty for MYDA when Rashid Mpata was brought down in the area.
In the very last minute of normal time, Derrick Basoga levelled matters to hand MYDA some hope in their bid to avoid the drop this season.
The result sees MYDA move to 10 points after 22 games but they stay second from bottom, 14 points adrift of safety.
Kyetume on the other hand, now have 20 points and they stay in 14th.
