2021 AFCON Beach Finals
May, 23rd-29th
Saly, Senegal
The Uganda National Men’s Beach Soccer team, the Sand Cranes have stepped up their preparations for the upcoming AFCON Beach Soccer finals in Saly, Senegal.
On Sunday, 9th May, a team of 18 players and 5 officials entered residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.
They underwent a single training session in the evening which was conducted by head coach Salim Muwonge, assistant Bashir Mutyaba and the rest of the technical team.
Emphasis in these early stages is on player fitness and endurance as stressed by the coach.
“Our emphasis on the first session was player fitness and endurance since many players haven’t been active since the league ended. Therefore we have to bring back their bodies to the required fitness levels before we set off for Senegal.” Muwonge said.
The team will continue training in the next few days before the final 12-man team will be announced.
At the finals, Uganda is in group A alongside hosts Senegal, DR Congo and neighbours Tanzania.
The Uganda delegation is expected to depart for Senegal on the 18th May.
This is the first appearance for Uganda at the AFCON beach soccer championships having secured their spot after Ghana, whom they had to face in the final round of qualification, withdrew.
