Uganda national Rugby Sevens team, Rugby Cranes 7s have finished third at the Solidarity Camp that was organized by Rugby Africa in South Africa (Stellenbosch) at Markotter Stadium.
Rugby Cranes capped the event with a 36-07 win over Zimbabwe on Saturday. This was Uganda’s only triumph at the event that saw each side face every team.
Michael Wokorach, Solomon Okia, Isaac Massa, Timothy Kisiga and Norbert Okeny scored Uganda’s tries. Joseph Aredo managed three conversions.
Hosts, Blitzboks finished the campaign on top of the standings following their comprehensive 31-05 win over Kenya on the final day. Zimbabwe finished at the rock bottom of the table.
Ugandan charges will now shift their focus to the Rugby Sevens Repechage tournament which will take place between 19-20 June, 2021 in Monaco at the Stade Louis II. Uganda is seeded in men’s Pool B with France, Hong Kong, Chile and Jamaica.
With 21 of the 24 teams already qualified for the Olympic rugby sevens competition, the remaining two women’s and one men’s teams to participate at the Olympic Games in Tokyo will be determined at the Repechage event.
