The Uganda national beach tennis team is in South Africa for the Southern and Eastern Africa Regional Team Cup and Individual Championships that run from 18th May up to 22nd May 2021 in Badplaas Mpumalanga.
According to the Uganda Tennis Association (UTA) press release, the team representing Uganda comprises of; Moses Bashaasha, Jonathan Gilbert Mugisha, Patience Athieno, Sandra Khissaa and Alvin Bagaya- (Team Manager).
The team left for the event on Monday, 17th May and will start playing today, Wednesday, 19th.
This will be Uganda’s maiden appearance at a beach tennis tournament.
The event will be played by 8 nations, Uganda inclusive with the sides competing for the top two spots to determine who will represent Africa at the World Championships.
The competition involves men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles and doubles and mixed doubles.
South Africa the hosts are the top seed in Africa.
Beach tennis is a new concept from the ITF that is aggressively being pushed among federations through their partners Sandever, who provide equipment to nations.
Uganda has been a beneficiary of the Sandaver support and the equipment has helped the team prepare for the event.
