Entebbe Club has released draws for the main event of round two of Season 5 of the Singleton Match Play Challenge slated for 26th June at its par-71 golf course.
Round one was held over the weekend with 32 pairs (out of 64) making it to the this month’s showpiece with half (16) of them again set to make it to round three that will be held next month.
The only three all-female teams in the main event of the championship will be up against their all-male counterparts with the only two mixed teams too facing all-male pairs. There are only eight female players left in the main event of the championship.
Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) President Anne Abeja and her Vice Ritah Akot Apell will be up against Joseph Kimani/Fred Kimbuge.
In the previous round, both teams won 4up with Abeja/Akot beating an all-male pair of Stanley Muhwezi/Edwin Tumusiime while Kimani/Kimbuge ejected out last season’s semi finalists Marvin Kagoro/Oscar Semawere.
2018 winners Peace Kabasweka/Sheila Kesiime will be up against Sammy Migunda/Muhammad Jezan.
Last time out Kabasweka/ Kesiime beat fellow all-female team of Ruth Mugisha/Grace Njeri 7up while Migunda/Jezan beat Andrew Opio/Samuel Opolot 3up.
The other all-female team of Lillian Koowe/Sharon Musiimenta will be up against an all-male team of Albert Gitta/Herbert Olowo.
In the first round, Koowe/Musiimenta beat an all-male team of Gilbert Asiimwe/Charles Kabunga 3up while Gitta/Olowo triumphed over Sam Kacungira/Francis Kyegarikye, also off 3up.
Among other matchups, the mixed pairs of Collins Mwesiga/Jackie
Kwesiga and Bbale Yunus/Irene Nakalembe will be facing the all-male teams of Andrew Atuhaire/Michael Muhangi and Casper Okiru/Ronald Osekeny respectively.
However, last seasons winning pair Innocent Nahabwe/Adoch Luwum didn’t honor this year’s edition.
Going forward, the subsequent rounds have been scheduled as follows; 26th June – Round two, 24th July – Round three, 21st August – Round four, 30th October Round five and 27th November – Grand finale.
Throughout the championship, there will be a subsidiary event for players not participating in the match play.
