On Wednesday, National Council of Sports (NCS) directed local basketball governing body, Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) to suspend the top tier league, the National Basketball League due to the current surge in Covid-19 positive cases.
In its letter to all clubs dated June 4th and signed by its General Secretary Ssegamwenge Hudson, FUBA has formally notified all teams of the same as it (FUBA) seeks to map a way forward so as to reinstate competitive play.
“We wish to formally inform all clubs and other stakeholders that all League activities have been suspended effective immediately till further notice.”
“We encourage all Athletes, Team officials to embrace the Vaccination process and continue adhering to the SOPs for safety from COVI-19.”
“As a federation, we shall continue to abide by the Government guidelines on resumption
of sports and continue to engage National Council of Sports for the resumption of the League,” FUBA’s missive read.
Earlier on, FUBA had suspended the lower division leagues due to financial constraints and as it stands now, there’s no local competitive basketball going on.
However, at the moment most sports federations are embracing the vaccination drive to ensure the safety of all those involved and possibly have play uninterrupted.
