Police FC 0-2 Wakiso Giants
MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo
Wakiso Giants FC exited the Uganda Cup on Friday despite defeating Police FC 2-0 at Lugogo.
Viane Ssekajugo scored a brace for the Purple Sharks but the 3-1 loss to the Cop at home, in the first leg, saw Douglas Bamweyana’s side eliminated from the competition on away goals rule.
Needing three clear goals to overturn the first leg defisit, Bamweyana’s men were presented with a golden opportunity to take an early lead but Joshua saw his effort from a penalty saved by Tom Ikara inside seven minutes.
Wakiso were instantly made to pay for Lubwama’s miss only for Derrick Kakooza to fire straight at Samson Kirya while in a one-on-one situation.
Police who looked to be in firm control of proceedings got another chance to take the lead but just like Kakooza before, Ben Ocen saw his effort thwarted by Kirya.
Sekajugo then took matters in his own hands as he volleyed Wakiso into the lead after he was set up by Tom Masiko’s free kick.
Wakiso pushed for a second before halftime but Police held onto to go into the break trailing by just one.
Five minutes past the hour mark, Ssekajugo scored a second for Wakiso as he robbed Tom Ikara of the ball as the goalkeeper tried to waste time before slotting into an empty net.
With time running out, Wakiso nearly completed the task but only for Ssekajugo’s effort from inside the 6-yard box to bounce of the woodwork.
The result means Police join Express FC, Vipers SC and BUL FC in the semi finals of this year’s Uganda Cup.
