The Uganda boys’ junior tennis team are in the mix at the Africa Junior Teams’ Championship slated for 21-26 June 2021 in Cairo, Egypt. The event doubles as the Junior Davis Cup Qualifiers.
Three youngsters are representing Uganda at the do, that is; Trevor Solomon Kazibwe (16 years), Allan Otto (14 years) and Troy Adrian Zziwa (14 years). Edward Odockcen is team Captain.
For Odockcen, the team Captain prides in how the youngsters have grown in the game tipping them to have a bright future.
“Troy Zziwa and Allan Otto were part of the Africa Junior Championship held in 2019 in Morocco. It is good to see that they are making progress; playing at an advanced level,” Odockcen said.
“Troy Zziwa and Trevor Kazibwe participated in the Africa Junior Championship held in Tunisia on clay court in 2019, them qualifying for a such a tournament (Africa Junior Teams’ Championships) means that they have made a lot of progress,” Odockcen added.
Uganda qualified for the Cairo junior continental showpiece through the Zonals that were held in early 2020 and Odockcen says the boys are good to go.
“The boys are fit, they have been working hard. I believe they are going to put up a very good performance,” Odockcen noted.
The 14 & U Team’s event will be considered as a Grade C Tournament. ITF/CAT ranking points will be allocated to the participating players at the team’s event as follow:
*Victories in Singles during Pool Matches:
– Player N° 1: 250 points for each single match won.
– Player N° 2: 150 points for each match won
*Victories in Doubles during Pool Matches:
– 100 points per player for each double match won.
