@Kyadondo Rugby Club – 1 PM.

For over one and half years, the Lady Rugby Cranes (Uganda women’s rugby XVs team) have been out of competitive action due to Covid-19 disruptions and its related challenges that caused the cancellation of the 2020 international season.

After a long hiatus, the Lady Rugby Cranes will return to action this Wednesday, 14th July when they play host to Zimbabwe Women’s Sables in a Rugby Africa Cup Women’s Group C clash at Kyadondo Rugby Club. The two sides will again face off on Sunday, 18th July at the same venue.

It’s the first time ever Uganda and Zimbabwe women’s teams face each other.

Lady Rugby Cranes Vice Captain Charlotte Mudoola says that it feels good to return to the turf wearing national colours adding that the whole team is raring to go.

“It’s exciting…it’s a step towards return of play,” Mudoola ahead of kickoff.

For Mudoola, she has lots of expectations when they host Zimbabwe at an empty Kyadondo turf.

“We are hoping to learn from each other but also hoping to display a lot of flair rugby from the Lady Rugby Cranes so as to show the skills we have. The team is full of young players and young talent which is an amazing project and I’m excited to be part of the team as we build the women’s XVs team for future tournaments,” Mudoola added.

Mudoola is one of the most capped player in the team and now hopes to pass her knowledge to the budding youngsters and possibly claim maximum points against the visitors.

The Lady Rugby Cranes 23-player team has been in a bio bubble camp as a Covid-19 preventive measure.

Four players will make their debuts for the side, that is; vice captain Patricia Anek, Sarah Kirabo, Angella Nanyonjo and Emilly Lekuru while four others; Fazila Namukwaya, Lyton Nakabugo, Maimuna Nassozi and Suzan Adong will possibly earn theirs off the bench.
