Uganda Premier League (UPL) 2020/21 champions Express FC have on Wednesday announced the signing of Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa.
Mutakubwa, 27 joins the Red Eagles on a free transfer and has penned a two-year deal with the side, bringing along with him his good ball distribution, quick reflexes and his ability to cover angles in one-on-one situations.
Mutakubwa who recently featured for UPL side Kyetume FC will replace Mathias Muwanga who left the Wankulukuku based outfit over a fortnight ago after refusing a new contract offer from the club.
For Mutakubwa, joining the league champions is a huge boost for his career but he is also aware of the job at hand.
“This is a great step towards achieving my goals as a footballer. Express FC is surely the right place to be because of the Championship mentality here,” Mutakubwa told the club website.
“I know what is expected of me and I’ll do my very best to perform at the highest level. I want to thank the Head Coach (Wasswa Bbosa) for having the trust in me,” Mutakubwa added.
He kept 10 clean sheets last season and the club will be hoping that he’s a good addition to the side as they attempt to defend the UPL title during the 2021/22 season.
Mutakubwa joins Denis Otim and Chrispus Kusiima in competing for the number one jersey at the club.
