Uganda long distance running pair of Joshua Cheptegei and Jacob Kiplimo have earned their country its first medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after winning Silver and Bronze respectively in the Men’s 10,000m race on Friday at the Olympic Stadium in Japan.
Ethiopian runner Selemon Barega posted a winning time of 27:48.22 to steal the show after the Ugandan duo dominating headlines in the buildup.
Cheptegei, 24 finished second with a time of 27:43.63 while 20-year old Kiplimo managed a time of 27:43.88 to finish third.
The other Ugandan at the event Stephen Kissa dropped out of the race at about 18:52 minutes.
For Cheptegei and Kiplimo, attention now shifts to the men’s 5000m, an even the pair will attempt to defy odds and finish at the front.
