A provisional squad of 24 Lady Cricket Cranes (Uganda women’s national cricket team) players have started preparations for the World Cup qualifiers scheduled for September 7th to 20th in Gaborone, Botswana.
The squad summoned by the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) started practise on Wednesday at the Lugogo Cricket Oval after all the players passed the mandatory Covid test. The squad includes players from Soroti, Jinja and Kampala.
“All practise will be done under strict adherence to SOPs to ensure that the players practise from a safe environment. The squad has been divided into groups of 4 with the sessions conducted by Head Coach Suraj Karavadra and his assistant Alpha Adowa,” UCA said in a missive.
Uganda will compete against 10 others for the crown of African Queens, a feat they were able to achieve in 2017 in Namibia. The 11 nation tournament in Botswana will have hosts Botswana, Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
