Uganda men’s national volleyball team, Volleyball Cranes beat their Burkina Faso counterparts 3-1 in the opening match of the Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship on Tuesday, 7th September 2021 at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.

Uganda who had enough preparations in the buildup to the tournament came out buzzing right from the serve-off and went to win the first two sets 25-15 and 25-18 respectively.

The Pool A clash almost saw Uganda win in straight sets but a spirited Burkina Faso side couldn’t allow proceedings end without putting up a fight as they hanged on to win third set 26-28.

The West Africans seemed to have used most of their energy in the third set as Uganda had easy work to do in the fourth set, posting a 25-13 win.

Uganda will take on their East African neighbors Burundi on Thursday, 9th September in their second game while Burkina Faso will attempt to make amends against hosts Rwanda.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarter finals.

The African Nations Volleyball Championship doubles as the 2022 World Championship Zonal Qualifiers.

Tournament Pools.

Pool A:
Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Burundi and Uganda

PoolB:
Tunisia, Nigeria, Ethiopia and South Sudan

Pool C:
Cameroon, DRC, Mali and Niger

Pool D
