Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship – 5/6 placement match

Uganda men’s national volleyball team, Volleyball Cranes have finished fifth (5th) at the Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship that winds down today at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.
Uganda beat hosts Rwanda 1-3 in the 5/6 placement fixture today, Tuesday, 14th September to claim a strong finish to the tournament on their debut.
Rwanda started the match on a strong footing winning the first set 25-21. Uganda regrouped themselves and won the remaining three sets 23-25, 20-25 and 13-25 respectively.
Uganda’s pathway to the championship was cut short in the quarter finals when they lost 3-1 to Egypt in the quarter finals.
In the first/overall placement (5-8) fixture, Uganda beat DR Congo 3-1 in the first classification match to set up a date with Rwanda who had beaten Nigeria in the other clash.
The African Nations Volleyball Championship doubles as the 2022 World Championship Zonal Qualifiers where by only one team (overall winner) will qualify from the Kigali event. The final (Cameroon vs Tunisia) is currently underway.
