The schedule for the 2021 Uganda Open Golf Championship has been revealed. The event will run between 18th November to 4th December at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course.

The Championship will have seven events, that is; Ladies Open, Seniors Open, Amateur Open, Par 3 competition, Pro-Am, Professional Open and Presidential Shield. Last year’s Championship held at Uganda Golf Club only had three events, that is; Ladies, Amateur and Professional Open.

After what is anticipated to be an interesting buildup, the event proper will tee-off on 18th November with the Ladies Open, lasting for three days. Seniors will be in the mix in the last two days (19th and 20th).

Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa’s Martha Babirye retained her Ladies Open title last year shooting a total gross score of 236 (81, 77 and 78), 20 over par.

The main and oldest event of the Championship, Amateur Open, marking it’s 80th staging will tee-off on 24th November, running for four days. Par 3 competition will be held on the final day of the Amateur Open (27th November).

John Lejirma of Kenya Railway Golf Club won last year’s Amateur Open off a total gross of 287 (75, 72, 69, 71), one under par.

Pro-Am, an event having both amateur and professional players in the mix will be held on 30th November.

The Professional Open, also doubling as a Safari Tour event will run between 1st and 4th December. The Presidential Shield will be held on the final day of the pro event, capping the Championship.

Zimbabwean golfer Robson Chinhoi of Royal Harare Golf Club won last year’s pro event, shooting 15 under par (a total gross score of 273).

Earlier on, Uganda Golf Union President Moses Matsiko had confirmed that the Uganda Open will happen though Covid-19 disruptions have been a damper to the the game and sport as a whole.

“Let’s agree that what is gone is gone and there is very little we can or could have done about it. What we are planning on now is to have the Uganda Open in Entebbe and if we are lucky then we shall have a few tours before the Open,” Matsiko said.

Most clubs are yet to reinstate competitions with most players now resorting to recreational golf in a bid to keep in shape.
