CECAFA Women’s U20 Championship 2021

Burundi vs Uganda – 4:00PM
Ahead of the kickoff of the CECAFA Women’s U20 Championship on Saturday, 30th October 2021 at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, coaches for various sides have expressed readiness to dominate the showpiece.
Six teams confirmed participation for the inaugural edition with hosts Uganda, Burundi, Tanzania, Eritrea, Djibouti and Tanzania all ready to compete.
The first game of the tournament is between Eritrea and Tanzania and it will kickoff at 10:30am.
Bakari Shime, the head coach of the Tanzania U20 Women’s National Team believes his charges are ready for the tournament and their target is to go all the way and clinch it.
“We have had enough preparations for this tournament and we here with the ultimate target of winning the title,” Shime told FUFA website adding that the tournament will help his side prepare for the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifier games against Burundi in December.
His counterpart, Ibrahim Jamal (Eritrea) too is upbeat but says that the Championship will help expose his players to a different level of the game.
“This is a good platform for the team because we share be facing very good teams. I believe there is a lot to learn from this Championship and definitely we shall be aiming to having good results,” Jamal said.
Uganda will be banking on home advantage and coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi has his sight set on silverware but has urged his side to put in the work on the pitch.
“We have a winning mentality and definitely we would want to lift the Championship at home but for now, we have to first get our first opponent Burundi out of the way and then look at the rest of the games,” Kiyingi said.
The Championship will be played in a round robin format. The team with most points after Matchday five will be declared Champions.
