CECAFA Women’s U20 Championship hosts Uganda and Ethiopia remain the only sides to have picked victories after three outings following matchday three results at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.

Ethiopia defeated Tanzania 2-1 in the first game of the day while Uganda overcame Eritrea in the late kickoff off a 2-0 triumph.

Both Uganda and Ethiopia now have points but the hosts boast of a 19 goal difference.

Mesay Temesgen and Ien Nyabouny scored in the second half to help Ethiopia edge Tanzania who earned a late consolation goal through Clara Cleitus Luvanga.

Tanzania tried to chase for an equalizer but Ethiopia fielded precisely to ensure the East Africans cause no harm.

Tanzania had defender Fumukazi Nguruwe sent off for shoving assist referee to the ground when Aisha Masaka’s stoppage time would be equalizer was ruled out for offside.

In the second game of the day, Burundi picked their first win at the tournament, demolishing hapless Djibouti 6-0.

Midfielder Estella Gakima scored twice while captain Olga Peace Niyomwungere, Pascacie Butoyi and Ineza Bora added the other goals.

For Uganda, Hadijah Nandago’s first half tap in and Fauzia Najjemba’s goal moments into the second half were enough to secure victory for the home side.

Action resumes on Saturday with Matchday four fixtures where Burundi will face Ethiopia while Djibouti will play neighbours Eritrea. The final game will have Uganda facing Tanzania.

The Championship is played in a round robin format. The team with the most number of points after Matchday five will be named Champions.
