After two rounds of play, local professional (pro) golfers Silver Opio of Entebbe Club and Uganda Golf Club’s Abbey Bagalana both shot 3 under par 141 at the Kakira Open that came to a close on Friday, 5th November 2021 at Jinja Sports Club’s par-72 course.

With scores even after 36 holes (two days), matters had to be settled via second playoff hole and Opio came atop Bagalana to claim the biggest chunk of the UGX10M pro kitty.

Both players had a strong second round with Opio shooting 68 whilst Bagalana had 67. They had returned 73 and 74 respectively on day one (Thursday).

Denis Anguyo capped the podium with 2 under par 142, just a stroke behind the above pair having shot 75 and 67 on day one and two respectively.

Abraham Ainamani shot 1 under par 143 (72, 71) to finish fourth while day one leader Ronald Rugumayo who managed 3 under par 69 in the opening round finished fifth after returning 3 over par in the second round culminating into a level par at the end of proceedings.

The rest of the pros who made the money cut tied for eighth off 2 over par 146, that is; Brian Toolit, Ronnie Bukenya, Martin Ochaya, Herman Mutawe and Fred Wanzala.

16 players missed the day two money cut. On day one, all players had made the cut. The tournament was graced by only local pros

Local pros have an opportunity to play at two two-round events this coming week, that is at the professional event of the Uganda Golf Club Ladies Open slated for 9th and 10th November. However, the tournament will have three other competitions in the mix and will run between 9th to 13th November at the club’s par-72 course in Kitante.

The other pro event slated for next week is the professional event of the Equity Bank NARO Open slated for 11th and 12th at Marylouise Simkins Memorial Golf Club Namulonge. Amateurs will be in the mix in the same period but the outing will be capped by a subsidiary do on 13th November.

However, local pros and those from the region and beyond have eyes glued at the professional event of the 2021 Uganda Open Golf Championship that will be played from 1st to 4th December at Entebbe Club’s par-71 lakeside course. The event has one of the biggest pro kitties in the region.
