Jinja Hippos RFC has partnered with Shares (U) Ltd to develop youth rugby in the Jinja City area.
The two parties have signed a three year funding deal and it will allow the club promote age group rugby in and around Jinja City for both boys and girls aged from 7 to 18.
“The established programme in Jinja Town based around training at Hippos home ground, Dam Waters will benefit from the sponsorship and in addition the plan is to establish youth rugby clubs across the expanding city,” the club said via a press release.
The first area to benefit will be Bujagali with plans for Gomba and Bukaya in the pipeline. Once schools reopen the outreach programme will extend to over a dozen primary and secondary schools within the City.
Shares! (U) Ltd. CEO, Marck van Esch commented that; “we believe that sports among youth can teach the values of team spirit, discipline, self motivation, independent thinking and healthy lifestyle. These compliment our core purpose of helping farmers to produce marketable products using environmentally friendly techniques at the same time as removing the need for middlemen, thereby maximising the farmers profit.“
Hippos Chairman, Manzi Jonan commented; “We are delighted with the support from Shares! For youth rugby in Jinja. Their values and those of Jinja Hippos and the sport of rugby coincide very well. With this kind of support we can help disadvantaged youth around Jinja find purpose in their lives and discover the joys of team sport. It is a massive boost for the City”.
