Uganda Golf Open gets 300M Tusker Malt sponsorship boost

Event: 2021 Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open

The 2021 Uganda Golf Open has received a major sponsorship boost from its title sponsor Tusker Malt Lager who have injected Shs300m (Three Hundred Million Shillings) into the tournament which tees off on 18th November running up to 4th December.

This development was confirmed on Wednesday, 10th November at Entebbe Club, whose par-71 18-hole golf course will host the showpiece that is marking it’s 80th staging.

Speaking to the media during a press briefing to announce the tournament sponsorship package, Elizabeth Mutamuliza, Premium Beers Brand Manager at UBL revealed that this year’s tourney is expected to be the biggest undertaking ever, for the Tusker Malt Lager brand and the game of golf in the country.

“As Tusker Malt Lager, Uganda’s leading premium beer, we are honoured to continue our relationship with golf, arguably the finest sport there is. We are brewed for the finest and this year, we aim to set the benchmark for a premium experience both on and off the greens,” said Mutamuliza.

This year’s Uganda Golf Open will compromise of seven events in total namely; Ladies Open, Seniors Open, Amateur Open, Par 3 Competition, Pro-Am, Professional Open and President’s Shield. The championship will also double as one of the Safari Tour legs as has been the case since 2019 with this year’s pro kitty being Shs100m.

Uganda Golf Union President Moses Matsiko, revealed that over 100 players will be in the mix for each of the three major categories, that is; Ladies, Amateur and Professional Opens with the money game set to attract regional, continental and possibly global representatives as the union continues to harness the good relationship that Uganda has with other nations through the game of birdies and boggies.

Matsiko also revealed that the Open has got a green light from both the National Council of Sports and the Ministry of Health and will observe all Standard Operating Procedures to avert the spread of Covid-19.

However, Absa Bank injected Shs50m into the showpiece and will go towards the Pro-Am slated on 30th November.

Tusker Malt Lager is the tournament lead sponsor and its partners are; Absa Bank Uganda, Abubaker Technical Services & General Supplies, Britam Uganda, Case Medical Services, Egis Road Operation Uganda, Liquid Intelligent Technologies, National Council Of Sports, NTV Uganda, Pepsi, Pinnacle Security Limited and Uganda Tourism Board.
