Event: 2021 Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open
Dates: 18th November – 4th December
Venue: Entebbe Club

Irene Nakalembe says that all she wants in the Ladies event of the 2021 Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open is victory as she seeks to gett off the mark in the championship that’s marking an overall 80th staging this year.

The Uganda Golf Open will run between 18th November to 4th December at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course which is home to Nakalembe. The ladies will tee-off proceedings with their event also dubbed the Uganda Ladies Open which runs from Thursday 18th to Saturday 20th November.

Nakalembe has had lots of titles to her name from home and across the continent but is yet to have the Uganda Open at her grasp. She now hopes to break her duck at this year’s do at her home course.

“All I need is victory,” Nakalembe said in an interview adding that she intends to play well throughout the championship and hoist the most coveted ladies title in the land.

Nakalembe finished third off 28 over par 244 in the 2020 edition held at Uganda Golf Club in Kitante, Kampala as Martha Babirye retained the title but the former has had a good year both at home and outside the country.

Earlier in the year, Nakalembe came from behind to win a record straight seventh Entebbe Ladies Open title at her home course. She also retained the Ikoyi Ladies Open in Lagos, Nigeria as well as relieving country mate Peace Kabasweka of the Tanzania Ladies Open in Dar es Salaam.

As she seeks to win her first Uganda Open title, Nakalembe says that there’s no pressure on her side and her preparation for the championship is the usual way she does it.

“The same way I have always prepared, something different is I had to compete outside the country but just like before,” Nakalembe noted.

Nakalembe has however ruled out home advantage saying that most players (especially top favorites) have already played at the Entebbe course before hence everyone has an advantage not just home players.
