Event: 2021 Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open
Dates: 18th November – 4th December
Venue: Entebbe Club
Martha Babirye says that she’s ready to defend the Uganda Golf Open Ladies Title also known as the Uganda Ladies Golf Open with the event teeing off on Thursday, 18th November running up to Saturday, 20th November at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course.
Babirye, handicap 4 won back to back titles last year when she triumphed at Uganda Golf Club to retain her title and is buoyed to keep the same accolade at her grasp for a third straight year. Her first title came in 2019 at Lake Victoria Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo.
“I am ready to defend it (Uganda Ladies Golf Open) and I have been practicing,” Babirye who won the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Ladies Open over the weekend said adding that the victory a few days ago could have set her up for another victory as she seeks a double in a space on one week.
In 2018, Babirye, a member of Uganda Golf Club suffered a heartbreak after Tanzania’s Neema Olomi came out of nowhere to snatch her (Babirye’s) lead on the final day to deny her to get off the mark in Entebbe then.
As she returns to the same course, Babirye insists she’s not under pressure anymore but her aim to retain the championship is unchanged.
“Since I have it (the title) already, it won’t put me on the pressure because 2018 was my teacher that’s why I have managed to have it twice,” Babirye said adding that, “…all the good players know that I can defend it easily.”
According to Babirye, Entebbe’s Irene Nakalembe who’s in pursuit for a maiden Uganda Golf Open title could be having a home advantage but that won’t stop her and other players to put up a good show.
The Uganda Golf Open overall will run between 18th November to 4th December with seven events in the mix. The championship will be marking its 80th staging.
