Meron Kyomugisha emerged day one leader in the opening day of the ladies event of the Uganda Golf Open also known as the Uganda Ladies Open after returning 1 under par 70 on Thursday, 18th November at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course.

Kyomugisha, handicap 6 and a member of Palm Valley Golf and Country Club now takes a 7-stroke lead ahead of second placed Peace Kabasweka and Mercy Nyanchama (T2) heading into Friday’s second round.

Kyomugisha admits that she had a very good round but doesn’t want to lead just for one day but throughout the tournament and possibly hoist the winner’s accolade on Saturday.

“It was a very perfect game and I was driving very well that’s how I managed to hit 1 under,” Kyomugisha told media at the 18th hole after her round.

Going forward, Kyomugisha says that; “what I have to do is to maintain my game as I did today and ensure that I can be on top again. I am not under any pressure and I will play my way.”

Second placed Kabasweka (6 over par 77) says that her speed wasn’t stable as she lost many strokes but she’s happy with what she got and hopes to right her wrongs in the second round.

Entebbe’s favorite Irene Nakalembe tied for fourth with Tanzania’s Vicky Elias off 7 over par 78. She (Nakalembe) however insists that her eyes are on the title and says that she will focus on her driving in the remaining two rounds.

Title holder Martha Babirye finished sixth with 10 over par 81. Gloria Mbaguta is seventh with 11 over par 82.
