Kenyan teams to play at Swans Sports Club Rugby 7s Festival

According to its organizers, the 2021 Swans Sports Club Rugby 7s Festival is set to attract teams from Kenya and majority from Uganda. The event is slated Sunday, 5th December at Namate Sports Grounds in Entebbe running from 8 a.m to 5 p.m.

“This festival has attracted teams from across the border (Kenya) and other parts of the country with teams from Mbale, Jinja, Kampala and Entebbe set to participate,” Swans SC Chairman Ivan Acuku told media in a pre-tournament press conference held on Wednesday at Hotel No.5 in Entebbe.

Rugby Gems, Nanyuki (two U15 and two U18 teams) are the Kenyan rugby outfits who will be at the event. However, Gilgil who were set to field an U15 boys team pulled out on Thursday due to some challenges.

Swans Founding Director, Regina Lunyolo adds that many teams across the country will be in the mix.

“From Kampala we have Kyadondo Rugby Club fielding all age groups for both girls and boys, Acholi Quarters Rugby Academy in U10, U15 and U18 categories both girls and boys, Rams Academy from Makerere will field in U10, U13 and U18 categories as well as Silverbacks from MUBS,” Lunyolo said.

“In Entebbe we have Mongers U18, Kisubi Pacers Academy, Busiro, Jaguars & Lady Swans. Kyambogo is bringing a touch team who will play Jaguars. From Mbale we have Mbale Eagles, Elgon Shewolves and Mbale Elephants, all fielding two teams each. From Jinja we have Spec Budondo fielding teams in all age groups,” Lunyolo added.

The tournament will also be used as a platform for the participants to join the rest of the world on the 16 days of activism against gender based violence.

The event partners are; Hotel No.5, Excel Processing Systems, Uganda National Touch Association, Uganda Rugby Union and Plus256 Studios who are the live streaming and media partner.
