UPL: Dada’s late header earns URA victory over Onduparaka, Express hold Gadaffi

Dada Ibrahim scored a late header to earn URA FC a 2-1 win over Onduparaka FC in the Startimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday at the Arena of Visions in Ndejje.

It was URA who had taken the lead earlier in the game through Steven Mukwala before Mansoor Safi evened matters with a long range free kick only for the hosts to leave it late.

Mukwala gave URA the lead in the 35th minute after capitalizing on Ssekajuko’s header to slot home. He made light work of Onduparaka’s backline bodies.

URA went into the first half break with the lead but Onduparaka were quick to look for an absolution once play was reinstated but their early chances went wide.

Three minutes into the second half, Onduparaka leveled matters thanks to Mansoor Safi’s free kick that evaded URA’s custodian Alionzi Nafian who was impressive for most parts of the game though.

When it looked the two parties were set to share spoils Ibrahim Dada stepped up to the scene when he capitalized on Serubiri’s cross to slot home in the 82nd minute to earn URA a 2-1 win at home.

URA are 3rd on the table with 38 points after 20 matches while Onduparaka are 13th with 18 points are will need to react quickly because the relegation talk is now getting louder.

Earlier in the day, struggling title holders Express FC scored late to claim a point against new comers Gadaffi FC at the Gadaffi Arena.

Paul Musamali earned Gadaffi an early lead when his 14th minute free kick couldn’t be saved by Express goalie Denis Otim.

The home side would have easily doubled their advantage but Umar Kyeyune’s penalty kick was denied by the woodwork. Murushid Juuko had earlier on fouled Richard Basangwa in the area.

In the 80th minute, Charles Musiige scored an equalizer after capitalizing on Joseph Akandanwaho’s cross

Express are now without victory in the last six outings in the league while and are sixth with 30 points.
