The proposed route for this year’s Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally will face changes from its initial design.
The changes follow a review of the internal operations of Sugar Corporation of Uganda Limited (SCOUL), who have offered part of their land for the rally.
In the letter released recently, SCOUL stated that; “Following an analysis of the proposed route of the above rally by your team chaired by our Regional Director, it was observed that the route traverses through the center of our operations.
“This proposed route will greatly impact on our operations, affecting sugar production, ethanol, carbon dioxide and power generation for the national grid.”
SCOUL has however offered another vast area in which new routes will be designed.
The organisers of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally have informed the FIA of the situation.
Two stages; that is, Shekhar Mehta and Mabira which constituted 45 percent of the rally will be replaced. The longest Kasaku Tea stage is staying intact.
The new route design will be out in a week’s time.
The Shell V-Power sponsored rally is the third round of the 2022 African and Uganda rally championships. The event is scheduled for 6-8 May, 2022.
Entries for the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally will open on 1st April, 2022.
Competitorsfrom Zambia, Kenya, Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania are expected to participate.
