Cricket Cranes & Eagles Series Tied 1-1

Uganda head out of Windhoek with their heads held high soon after levelling the Castle Lite 50-Over Series 1-1.

Namibia nicked the T20I series 2-1 but Uganda rallied in the longer format a day after being bundled out for 68 runs enroute a 7-wicket loss in the opening fixture on Tuesday.

But with the odds stacked against them, Uganda put their act together for a 3-wicket victory in the last match of the series.

Skipper of the day Kenneth Waiswa won the toss and opted to bowl first with the hosts Namibia registering 267 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Namibia were spurred on 38-year-old Craig Williams who stroked 90 runs from 107 balls including five boundaries and six fours. All-rounder Karl Birkenstock added 73 runs off 77 balls, wicketkeeper Lo-handre Lowrens added 44 runs off 57 balls at the top of the order and last year’s World Cup find Ruben Trupelmann added the final flourish with 19-ball cameo of 22 runs as Uganda’s bowlers; Cosmas Kyewuta (1/48), Dinesh Nakrani (1/53), Riazat Ali Shah (1/57) and Henry Ssenyondo (1/48) took one wicket apiece.

19-year-old Juma Miyagi’s star shone brightly in a spell of 0 for 39 and his fellow tourney debutant Emmanuel Hasahya stoked 19 vital runs in a fruitful opening partnership of 66 runs in 10.1 overs with Man of the Match Simon Ssesazi who got a half-century of 82 runs from 86 balls.

Waiswa and wicketkeeper Fred Achelam put up their hands with 20-odd runs apiece during which they featured in 50-run partnerships with match winners Nakrani (45) and Shah (43*).

Uganda used the series to prepare for International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Challenge League B that they will host from June 14-28 with Italy, Hong Kong, Bermuda, Jersey and neighbours Kenya in the fray.
