NBL: UCU Canons, City Oilers triumph on Friday night

UCU Canons and City Oilers were winners of the Friday night matches of the men’s division of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) played at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala.

UCU Canons posted a 77-86 win over fellow university side Ndejje Angels in the opening match before reigning champions City Oilers beat perennial rivals Betway Power 75-68 in the other match later in the evening.

UCU’s Peter Sifuma led his side with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Chuma Fadhili had 13 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists. Fayed Baale was another top performer with 12 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist.

In a losing effort, Haron Alinaitwe was Ndejje’s top performer with 13 points, 2 rebounds and 6 assists. Hassan Sentamu was another top performer with 12 points and 2 rebounds.

Victory means UCU Canons stay atop the men’s division table with 15 points off 7 wins from 8 games.

Ndejje Angels are sixth on the table with 10 points after 7 games where they managed only 3 wins.

In the other game of the night, Tonny Drileba was the top performer as Oilers outshined Power. He posted 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

Jimmy Enabu (10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists), Ivan Muhwezi (12 points and 2 rebounds), Ivan Lumanyika (12 points and 5 points) also showed up for the seven-straight times winners.

Innocent Ochera was big for Power but his individual effort couldn’t save his side. He posted 21 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

It was Power’s third loss of the season after 8 people. They are second on the table with 13 points.

City Oilers who had a losing start to the season win their fifth straight game after six outings. They are third on the table with 11 points.

The Tusker Lite National Basketball League continues throughout the weekend at the Kampala International University (KIU) court in Kansanga, Kampala.
