UCU Canons dominated City Oilers from tip off to the final whistle in their Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) encounter on Sunday night at the YMCA basketball court in Wandegeya, Kampala.

The men’s top tier division clash was anticipated to be a cracker but the university side held off the 7-straight time winners, handing them their second loss of the 2022 season.

UCU who have lost once so far stretch their lead at the top of the regular season table to 17 points after 9 games. City Oilers are fifth with 12 points.

At YMCA, Titus Lual was named the Tusker Lite man of the match after spearheading UCU’s charge. He posted a game high 14 points, 17 rebounds and 3 assists.

Chuma Fadhili was another top performer for UCU shooting 9 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist. Lwabaga Ibanda had 7 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

City Oilers on the other side failed to turn up the heat on a chilly Sunday evening as both the players and fans braved cold conditions in an outdoor court.

Ivan Muhwezi was City Oilers’ top performer but with 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. Jimmy Enabu managed 3 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.

In the only game played in the women’s top tier division, Miracle beat Nkumba University 71-57 earlier in the day.

The result means that the university side are yet to win a game this season and face relegation to the second tier division whilst newly promoted Miracle now have two wins this season.

The Tusker Lite National Basketball League returns midweek at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala.
