City Oilers overcame a resilient JKL Dolphins side to win 58-62 in their Tusker Lite National Basketball League encounter on Wednesday night at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala.
The triumph was a quick response from the 7-straight time men’s division winners who fell to university side UCU Canons over the weekend at YMCA basketball court in Wandegeya, Kampala.
On Wednesday night, City Oilers’ Tonny Drileba dropped 21 points, 2 rebounds and 5 assists. Ivan Lumanyika was another top performer with 15 points, 18 rebounds and 1 assist & he was named Tusker Lite man of the match
Malual Dier led JKL posting 22 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Mabor Makol had 11 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist.
City Oilers are still third on the regular season table with 14 points, just a point behind second placed Betway Power who have played a game more (nine games). They are three points behind log leaders UCU Canons who have also played a game more.
However, JKL Dolphins are fourth on the men’s team table with 12 points after nine games. They have only won thrice and lost six times.
Earlier on, KCCA Panthers boosted their survival chances with a 66-88 victory over new comers Tropical Royals.
KCCA are now seventh on the 13-team table with 11 points after eight games where they won thrice and lost five times.
Tropical Royals on the other side share the above statistics like KCCA but the latter have more points hence the former takes the eighth place on the table.
The Tusker Lite National Basketball League returns on Friday at the MTN Arena with two games on the card.
