Nkumba Lady Marines chances of staying in the women’s division of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) are getting slimmer as games go by.
The university side lost 35-72 in the opening matchday of the second round of the 2022 season on Friday at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala.
The Friday loss means that Lady Marines still have one win after 10 games in the division and are eighth on the 10-team table with 11 points, just a point ahead of Nabisunsa Girls and A1 Challenge who have played a game less.
KCCA’s Betty Longom who played 24:37 minutes led her side against Lady Marines shooting 15 points and 13 rebounds. She was named Tusker Lite player of the game.
Other top performers for KCCA included Susan Rebecca Aanyu with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists, Catherine Haruri with 11 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists whilst Angela Namurimu had 6 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
In a losing effort, Christine Namyaalo shot 9 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist for the Nkumba side. Isabella Namugabo had 7 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist whilst Catherine Nakimuli managed 2 points, 10 rebounds and 1 assist.
However, it was a false outing for Uganda Christian University (UCU) as both Canons and Lady Canons dropped points with the former losing 54-71 to men’s title holders City Oilers whilst the latter was stunned 63-68 by Angels.
Ndejje Angels 62-71 loss to Betway Power meant that all university sides lost on Friday.
The Tusker Lite National Basketball League continues today at the Kampala International University (KIU) basketball court in Kansanga. There are five games on the card.
