It was a fun evening for KIU Rangers as they eased past Nkumba Lady Marines, beating them 83-51 in the women’s division of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League on Wednesday at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala.
The result means that Lady Marines still have one win in the regular season and their survival chances are getting slimmer as they are eighth on the 10-team table with 12 points. They have also played two games more than ninth and 10th placed Nabisunsa Girls and A1 Challenge.
Rangers on the other hand lead the women’s division table with 21 points after 11 games. KCCA Leopards and UCU Lady who are following them and have played a game less each face-off on Friday evening at Lugogo.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, Perus Nyamwenge led Rangers’ charge against Lady Marines shooting 36 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists, the highest points in a game so far in the second round of the league. She was named Tusker Lite player of the game.
Other top performers for KIU Rangers include Rose Mary Amaniyo with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist plus Florence Nanyonga who shot 8 points, 1 rebound and 2 assists.
In a losing effort, Shadia Mbwali led Lady Marines with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist.
Peace Mauso managed 10 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists, Catherine Nakimuli had 7 points and 5 rebounds whilst Regina Juma had 3 points and 10 rebounds.
In the men’s division, Jimmy Enabu shot 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists as City Oilers beat UPDF Tomahawks 73-85 to consolidate top spot on the table.
The Tusker Lite NBL returns on Friday at Lugogo. UCU sides will all be in action with the Canons taking on Betway Power whilst Lady Canons will be up against KCCA Leopards.
