After losing to Jersey by 63 runs in the opening matchday of the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) Challenge League B tournament last Friday at Lugogo Cricket Oval, Uganda men’s national cricket team, Cricket Cranes are aiming to get off the mark when they take on Hong Kong today, Monday 20th June at Kyambogo Oval.

The hosts albeit dropping points in the tournament opener are upbeat ahead of the Hong Kong do after they polished themselves themselves on Sunday during a training session.

Cricket Cranes Head Coach Lawrence Mahatlane says that his side made some errors in their innings last time out but have learnt their lessons.

“We must execute our game plan this time round. We watched Hong Kong play and we understand what to do against them,” Mahatlane said after Sunday’s session at Kyambogo.

Uganda still lead the table with 10 points, just one ahead of Hong Kong who triumphed in their opening game.

With Hong Kong eyeing the summit, Mahatlane says his side is aware of the threat.

“First of all I think pressure (being on pressure) is a privilege. We are happy to represent the country and to make the nation proud we must execute our game plan inorder to win,” Mahatlane added.

The tournament is a pathway to the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in India but most importantly a voyage that could end with Uganda securing the much-vaunted One-Day International (ODI) status.
