Entebbe Golf Club over the weekend managed to overcome Kilembe Mines Golf Club in the second round of the 2022 Helmet Cup to emerge overall winners of the two-legged tournament held at the former’s par-71 lakeside golf course.
Entebbe beat Kilembe by just five strokes, posting an overall 2221 nett in two outings against the latter’s 2226.
Kilembe started the tournament on a good note when they won their home leg by 119 strokes back in April, posting 1108 nett against Entebbe’s 1227.
However, in the second outing, Entebbe capitalized on home advantage as they fielded their best charges for the do. On home course, Entebbe returned 994 nett against Kilembe’s 1118.
To come up with the team results, performance of the best 15 players was considered for each side.
Meanwhile, Milton Edimu and Susan Knight emerged overall winners in the men and ladies categories returning 63 and 64 nett respectively. Both players are from Entebbe Golf Club and guided their side to glory over a much younger Kilembe side.
Entebbe Golf Club Chairman Peter Apell revealed that going forward they intend to ensure that the tournament is constantly held.
“We want to keep this tournament as a key feature on the golf calendar. We also hope to cement our relationship with Hima Cement (tournament sponsors) for a long run,” Apell said adding that the tournament dates back to the 1950s though there have been inconsistencies along the way.
Hima Cement Head of Marketing and Innovation, Philimon Mubiru said that the company will continue partnering with the tournament as they have already budgeted for the next edition.
At the awards ceremony, winners in respective groups and categories won trophies and other goodies in a miners’ overall and helmet themed 19th hole experience.
