Uganda Crested Cranes have made a losing start at the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022 on-going in Morocco.

Coach George William Lutalo’s side conceded a goal in each half to suffer a 2-0 defeat to Senegal in a Group A match played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday.

Diakite Ndeye converted a penalty after 39 minutes, while Nguuenar Ndiaye made it 2-0 after 50 minutes.

The Ugandan team tried to fight back in the second half when Fazila Ikwaput and Sandra Nabweteme came on as substitutes.

Ikwaput, Uganda’s top scorer in the recent CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship came close on two occasions, but her efforts where blocked.

Senegal are now top of Group A, while hosts Morocco who beat Burkina Faso 1-0 in the opening match on Saturday are second on the log.

Burkina Faso are third on the table while Uganda are at the rock bottom.

CECAFA’s second representatives Burundi will be in action on Monday in a Group B tie against Botswana at the Stade Moulay Hassan, Rabat
