Namugongo (Nam) Blazers have completed a regular season double over City Oilers in the 2022 Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) after beating them 63-61on Friday evening at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala.
Nam Blazers also beat City Oilers, who are the title holders 72-65 in the season opener way back in March. The former had also beaten the latter during the regular season of the 2021 league that was however not completed.
On Friday night, Nam Blazers came back from a 22-point deficit and launched a comeback, snatching victory which was seemingly at City Oilers’ grasp as their (Blazers) fans cheered on in disbelieve.
Nam Blazers’ Daniel Monoja emerged the most efficient player of the game and was named Tusker Lite player of the game. He however returned 6 points and 12 rebounds.
However, if there was another alternative way of picking player of the game, Nam Blazers fans would have gone for Amisi Saidi who shot 21 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists. He was undoubtedly the guy who sunk City Oilers.
However, in a losing effort, some of City Oilers top performers included captain Jimmy Enabu with 12 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist, James Okello with 11 points and 18 rebounds plus Ceasar Kizito with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.
Meanwhile, City Oilers still top the regular season with 32 points after 18 games whilst Nam Blazers who have played two games less are are sixth with 28 points.
However, in the women’s division game played earlier on, KCCA Leopards eased past High School side Nabisunsa Girls, beating them 30-88 which is the biggest score margin in the regular season so far.
The regular season of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League continues throughout the weekend with lots of games to be played.
