Nam Blazers have maintained their status as one of the top sides in the regular season of the 2022 Tusker Lite National Basketball League after continuously picking impressive wins in the men’s top tier division.
The Namuwongo side beat highly rated giants UCU Canons 64-61 on Friday night at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala to increase their steam for the playoffs with the regular season heating up.
The win over UCU is Nam Blazers’crucial victory in the past few days. They recently beat reigning champions City Oilers as well as posting a century win over relegation-bound Falcons.
Amisi Saidi who played 38 minutes and 47 seconds was one of the stand out players for Nam Blazers shooting a double double of 17 points, 13 rebounds plus managing 1 assist.
Other top performers included; Deng Dikong with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist, Paul Odong with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist plus Okall Ariel with 7 points and 8 rebounds.
Fayed Baale returned from injury for UCU and played for over half an hour. He managed 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
In a losing effort, other UCU good performers included; Peter Sifuma with 14 points and 11 rebounds, Chuma Fadhili with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists, Titus Lual with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 1 assist plus Jerry Samson with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
Nam Blazers are third on the table with 32 points after 18 games (14 wins 4 losses). UCU Canons who have placed a game more are second with just a point ahead while table leaders City Oilers have 36 points from 20 games.
Meanwhile, in the women’s division, KIU Titans topped Angels throughout their game and at the end of proceedings emerged 46-56 victors in the first game of the evening.
The Tusker Lite National Basketball League continues throughout the weekend with top teams looking to secure ‘good’ playoffs slots whilst others are fighting for survival as well just staying in the top tier division.
