For the remainder of this year, local cricket activities will no longer be held at the Lugogo Cricket Oval which has been the hub of the game for many decades now.
This comes after National Council of Sports (NCS) notified local cricket governing body, Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) that Lugogo won’t be available to them from July to December 2022 because it’s booked out for other events notably entertainment concerts and the like. The former had requested to use the venue for its activities as it’s been the tradition.
The activities that were scheduled to be held at Lugogo in the remainder of this year include; Men and Women’s League, Elite league for men and women and the schools cricket week for girls and boys.
However, NCS says that the grounds are only available for “Strictly National team events.”
“Also the facility is a government facility that has many pre-booked events that take place from time to time,” part of the missive from NCS read on the matter read. The document was signed by Dr. Patrick Ogwel who is the NCS General Secretary.
However, going forward, NCS has advised UCA to forward their activity calendar for the year 2023 by the close of September 2022 for better planning and coordination.
Meanwhile, for Uganda Cricket, they’ll now be taking the game to venues outside Kampala with the boys school cricket event now set to be held in Jinja.
