Nabisunsa Girls may or may not be relegated from the women’s division of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) after they lost 56-55 to Angels in their final game of the regular season on Wednesday at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala.

Nabisunsa’s fate now depends on A1 Challenge’s game against UCU Lady Canons on Sunday. They (Nabisunsa) would have confirmed survival if they had picked victory against Angels.

A1 Challenge play their final game on Sunday and are second last on the 10-team table with 20 points, just one point behind eighth placed Nabisunsa. Seventh placed Miracle Ravens have 23 points with two games at hand and are safe.

To stay in top tier division, A1 Challenge must pull a stunner against UCU Lady Canons and claim maximum points because a lose for them will imply that they face the axe. The university side are favorites in this fixture.

Nabisunsa Girls have a better head to head against A1 Challenge – They won the first round tie 64-58 (6 points difference) before losing 53-55 (2 points difference) in the second round.

Albeit losing to Angels on Wednesday, Nabisunsa seem to have beaten the drop zone and it now looks like A1 Challenge will join Nkumba Lady Marines as the other relegated side in the women’s division, unless otherwise.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday evening, Catherine Amito was one of the players who stood out for Angels as she shot 14 points and 4 rebounds while Stella Maris Lunkuse had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

In a losing effort, the players who stood out for Nabisunsa Girls were; Sarah Namale with 14 points and 19 rebounds, Patience Karungi with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists and Tamasha Nsubuga who managed 17 points and 2 rebounds.

It was a women’s affair on Wednesday evening, also doubled as ladies night and in the other game of the division, KIU Rangers emerged 63-65 victors over Magic Stormers.

The Tusker Lite National Basketball League returns on Friday and will run throughout the weekend with the regular season now in its final bend.
