Event: 2022 Mountain Dew MXOAN

The 2022 Mountain Dew FIM AFRICA Motocross of African Nations Continental Championship (MXOAN) was launched on Wednesday at Speke Resort, Munyonyo, an event graced by sponsor representatives, motocross delegates, organizers plus the new Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Peter Ogwang.
The event will be hosted by Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) at the renowned Victoria Raceway Park, Garuga, Entebbe, Uganda from the 19th – 21st August 2022.
Mountain Dew who has been around motocross circles for over a decade has injected UGX50M into the continental event.
“As a title sponsor we’re proud to be part of this event. We have been in motocross for over a decade where we sponsored many events locally. We’re looking forward to a successful event,” Mountain Brand Manager Grace Namutebi said.
FMU President, Dipu Ruparelia revealed that around 140 professional riders across the continent are expected to grace the occasion with 20,000 fans targeted.
“This event was scheduled for 2020 but Covid-19 happened. It was again postponed in 2021 but I’m glad it will finally happen this weekend,” Dipu noted adding that FIM Africa has been helpful as they sent the technical team to prepare the ground to fit international standards and they have approved the track.
Hon. Ogwang who officially took his new office on Wednesday said that he is proud that Uganda is the one hosting the event and now urges the organizers to be able to showcase the best of the Pearl of Africa.
“I also promise total support to all sports federations during my time in office including motorsport,” Ogwang added.
Clerk of course Jack Cheney noted that everybody will have a fair chance on the track because it has been upgraded to international standards. He also urged spectators r to follow safety protocols.
The event main sponsor is Mountain Dew. The co-sponsors are; Vivo Energy, Stanbic Bank, Lato Milk, Fulcrum, Uganda Airlines and Uganda Lodges.
The MXOAN is one of the few Motorcycle events recognized as a ‘Team’ event, where the points of the official riders are tallied to determine who the winning African Nation will be. Riders from North, South, East & West Africa, will test their mental and physical limitations over the weekend.
South Africa is the reigning champion when it comes to the number of wins on the continent and hope to retain this title with another win in 2022.
The MXOAN will, as always, be an action-packed weekend for the riders and spectators, with guaranteed exciting racing and the usual wonderful hospitality by the host Federation. Uganda is well known for having plenty of spectators, so it will be exciting for the riders.
