NBL playoffs: UCU Canons, KCCA Leopards claim third positions

UCU Canons and KCCA Leopards have finished third in the playoffs of the 2022 Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs after they won their placement fixtures on Sunday at the YMCA basketball court in Wandegeya, Kampala.

UCU Canons beat KIU Titans 69-68 in the men’s division fixture of the 3rd pace playoff whilst in the women’s division game KCCA Leopards beat KIU Rangers 71-61 to hand the Kansanga based outfit a double double loss.

In the men’s game, KIU Titans blew away an interesting lead from the first quarter and gave away a one point win to UCU Canons with 9.8 seconds to go.

It was generally a low scoring game with no key standout players but KIU Titans’ Fidel Okoth Oduor returned 11 points, 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Isaiah Mabeny Ater had 9 points and 3 rebounds.

For UCU Canons, Abraham Isyagi had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Fayed Baale managed 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists whilst Lwabaga Ibanda had 7 points and 1 rebound.

In the women’s game, Susan Rebecca Aanyu stoodout for KCCA Leopards with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist while Angella Namirimu had 16 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists.

In a losing effort, Perus Nyamwenge and Uwineza Ninette scored 19 and 12 points respectively for KIU Rangers.

However, the finals of the Tusker Lite NBL playoffs which will be played in the best of seven series will start this Wednesday, 28th September at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala. Women’s title holders JKL Lady Dolphins will be up against UCU Lady Canons whilst men’s defending champions City Oilers will take on new comers Nam Blazers in the men’s game.
