The playoffs series of the Lower Leagues (Division 1 & 2) basketball is set to tip off on Saturday at YMCA basketball court in Wandegeya and at KIU basketball court in Kansanga.
This development was confirmed in a press briefing/playoffs series launch held on Thursday at the Uganda Olympic Committee premises in Lugogo, Kampala.
According to the Lower Leagues Management Committee General Secretary, Pai Kamoga, they have done a great job in the regular season and hopes that will be cap the campaign in good fashion.
“We have been trying to make a difference in running the lower leagues and I believe we have done a great job,” Kamoga said.
“Playoffs is the most exciting part of the season. We are looking forward to it and we are urging all basketball fans to come around for the games,” Kamoga added.
Accordingly to Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) President, Nasser Sserunjogi, ever since the National Basketball League (top tier division) playoffs came to a close a while ago, their focus has entirely been on the lower divisions which are a breeding ground for future stars.
“We will played most of the games at YMCA and KIU but the finals will most likely be played at the MTN Arena, Lugogo,” Sserunjogi said adding that lower divisions are always exciting because of the games are very unpredictable.
The top two men’s teams and two women’s teams in the second tier division (Division 1) will be promoted to the NBL. Hence a team will need to just make it to the final to earn promotion to the top tier division.
