Forward Allan Kayiwa has so far been an integral part of Express FC’s good start to the 2022/23 StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaign.
Kayiwa only joined the Red Eagles in the August 2022 transfer window penning a one-year contract from Vipers SC as a free agent.
He has scored five goals and also managed an assist in the seven league games Express have played so far and he has attributed his impressive start to life at Wankulukuku to the belief both his teammates and team coaches have in him.
“First things first, my coaches and teammates believe in me so that connection between us has been important to me as an individual and the teams on a larger note. I came in an environment where I know a lot of people ranging from the CEO Mr. Isaac Mwesigwa, the coaches, and the players therefore adaptation was never going to be a challenge to me,” Kayiwa told the club website.
The clever attacker is the joint leading goal scorer in the league so far with five goals same as his former teammate Yunus Sentamu of Vipers. Kayiwa has singlehandedly won 11 points of the 14 the seven-time SUPL champions have registered in seven outings.
Kayiwa’s goals came as Express drew 1-1 with UPDF FC and Gaddafi Modern FC and in the 1-0 victories over URA FC, BUL FC, and Busoga United FC while he assisted Marvin Oshaba’s goal in the 2-1 win over Onduparaka FC.
“I have just found myself at the end of everything so far but credit goes to the entire team for working tirelessly hard to ensure that we earn points and it is that momentum, fighting spirit, working hard, and togetherness that is unique about us, and it is going to keep us moving as we aim for the best,” Kayiwa added.
His contribution has enabled the Red Eagles to sit in the top positions on the 15-team SUPL log. In the fourth position, Express is on 14 points but have a game in hand on leaders Wakiso Giants FC who have gathered 17 points from eight outings.
“It is just the beginning of the season and we should not be carried away or feel in any way excited about our performance so far, let’s just stay focused and improve in each game that comes around. Personally, I want to keep scoring goals and who knows, this could help the team win trophies and maybe a golden boot for myself,” Kayiwa said.
Kayiwa’s side Express will return to action on Tuesday, November 22nd for their eighth league game against Soltilo Bright Stars FC at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wakulukuku hoping to continue with their winning streak.
