Weatherhead men’s team is one of the Ugandan hockey outfits set to participate in the Africa Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) scheduled for 13th to 19th February 2023 at Kenton College in Nairobi, Kenya.
Weatherhead Club Chairperson, Stephen Jjuuko Kwagala says that the team has a budget in place but the funds to finance it haven’t been secured with the tournament just days away.
“We have a budget of UGX 30 Million (Thirty Million Uganda Shillings). We are talking to sponsors quietly and individually, the people we know but we want to do a drive because the problem is Africa Hockey announced the tournament late,” Jjuuko said.
Jjuuko adds that they will need to first find funds within themselves (Weatherhead family) and money from outside will be a supplement as time is running out.
According to Jjuuko, even if the club secures half of the money they need for the showpiece, the team will travel to Nairobi and later figure out other things while already that side.
A contingent of 30 is set to travel for the event. The team is already conducting training sessions at the National Hockey Stadium in Lugogo, Kampala.
The other Ugandan teams that will be competing at the event are; Wananchi men and women’s teams plus Deliverance Church Uganda Hockey Club.
This will the men’s 33rd edition of the tournament while the women will be playing in the 24th staging.
